More of Your Document Estate, In Scope
Published: October 9, 2026
Most enterprise information is unstructured, spread across a widening mix of document types, quality, and formats. Mobile captures move through the same process as production scans, no matter how different their clarity or layout. Archives that have degraded over decades sit beside handwritten forms and correspondence spanning several languages and scripts. For most organizations, that mix isn't an edge case, it's the everyday workload.
Handling it well is never down to one moving part. Classification, extraction, validation, and exception-routing must all work together, and that's how Tungsten TotalAgility® has been built from the start.
Document recognition is the first vital step of that process, and in TotalAgility it has always been a choice among a few options. That choice just widened for on-premises customers, and it's worth fifteen minutes of your infrastructure team's time to see what it means for you.
A New Recognition Option
TotalAgility now lets you run Microsoft Azure Document Intelligence as a recognition option inside your own environment, accurately processing your documents where they already sit. In practice that means:
Broader coverage. More languages and scripts, and stronger results on the source material that's hardest to work with.
More of the estate in scope. Document types most often left out of an automation program become candidates again.
No change to how you work. The option sits behind the same recognition step, so existing processes call it without rework.
No change to your license. Pages processed draw down the page volume already on your agreement.
Documents processed through this recognition option remain within your environment, so it's ideal for TotalAgility customers who want everything on their own infrastructure.
You Choose Where It Applies
Recognition is configured per process rather than across the platform, so you can direct workloads that have been difficult to this option and leave everything else exactly as it is. Handwritten forms, mixed scripts and degraded scans are usually the first documents an automation program leaves behind. This option is built for that material, and the fastest way to know what it does with yours is to test it on your own documents.
Where This Matters Most
Government and the public sector, where Tungsten already works with 14 of 15 US federal agencies, need documents to stay within national infrastructure, in the languages and formats those institutions actually work in.
Banking and financial services, where Tungsten already works with 8 of the top 10 global banks, need to process account-opening packs, correspondence and archived records where source quality varies widely, in environments where data residency governs what's possible.
Regulated industries more broadly need processing to happen inside the organization's own controlled environment, so this option must arrive as something you deploy and operate.
Multinational, multilingual operations need one deployment that can run against documents from several markets and languages at once.
Where to Start
This recognition option is available now for TotalAgility 2025.2 and above deployed on your own infrastructure. Tungsten supplies it and the license that activates it, so you don't need a Microsoft agreement or a cloud subscription of your own.
The most useful first step is to identify the document types that have been holding a process back. Since it's something you host, bring your infrastructure team into the conversation early. If those documents are the reason something stayed manual, that is a conversation worth having.
As part of that conversation, bring a sample of your documents to your Tungsten account team to test with your own material. If it's a fit, they can set you up from there, since this is available by request rather than arriving in a release. If you're on an earlier version, consider upgrading to the latest release.
