Timeline for the 2025 e-invoicing mandate
The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) recently announced a phased implementation of e-invoicing via the national framework InvoiceNow, which is based on the international Peppol standard for the exchange of invoices in a structured digital format between suppliers and buyers.
GST-registered businesses will be required to transmit invoice data directly to IRAS via InvoiceNow, starting with a voluntary phase starting in May 2025. The implementation will be conducted according to the following schedule:
- 1 May 2025: voluntary adoption by GST-registered businesses, as a soft launch.
- 1 November 2025: newly incorporated companies that register for GST voluntarily.
- 1 April 2026: all new voluntary GST-registrants.
In an effort to support businesses and promote e-invoicing, the government has partnered with service providers to offer newly incorporated businesses a free year of InvoiceNow services. Starting from April 2024, newly incorporated businesses can choose their preferred InvoiceNow Accelerate service provider for the free services.
