Plastic Packaging Tax postponement
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) taxes, which target specific wider environmental and health concerns, are set to dominate the tax landscape in the coming years. ESG taxes can include, but are not limited, to plastic packaging taxes, sugar taxes, and carbon taxes, amongst others. Tungsten Automation supports specific plastic packaging taxes in the United Kingdom and Spain today.
Italy had been set to implement a plastic packaging tax, which taxes specific plastic imports, from July 2024. The Italian government has now officially postponed its implementation to 1 July 2026, with the delay expected to foster a smoother transition to compliance with the regulations.
Tungsten Automation will assess in what context we can support the obligations when the Italian government provides further information, as we approach the deadline for its implementation.
